A criminal or police record is a record of a person’s criminal history. In China, a candidate may be requested to present a no criminal record document when applying for a job or a public service. Individuals can obtain this document proof from the concerned authorities stating that they do not have any criminal record. In China it is usually done through the local police office. A lists criminal record all the criminal offense a person has committed in the past; and thus helps companies, foreign governments, and organizations screen the right candidates.
US citizens may also be asked to obtain a “certificate of good conduct” or “lack of a criminal record” intended for employment, or adoption in a foreign country. Hong Kong residents may also be required to obtain such documents when applying for student visa, resident visa and so on.
With the new policy implementation of China State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (SAFEA) from May 2017, most of the foreign applicants must provide valid non-criminal records and get Chinese consulate authentication when they apply for work permit in China.
So, if a criminal background check is requested by a foreign government, then it must be notarized and legalized, which makes the entire process more complicated!
